How to Upgrade LinkSys Firmware without errors

Why Should You Upgrade LinkSys Firmware?

Firmware upgrades are quite common for computer devices. Many times upgrading firmware adds enhancements to a device, such as an added feature in a cell phone or the ability to decode specific types of files in an MP3 player. Many times a new version of firmware is available for upgrade to fix bugs or to add security measures. For instance, if a security flaw has been found in a router, a new version of firmware might be available in order to reduce the risk that the security flaw will be exploited.

Stop call of duty black ops from disconnecting

Why do i keep disconnecting from black ops? I play a game 20 seconds later it disconnects. this has happend around 30 times today?

List of ports to forward:

Nintendo Wii – TCP [443, 3074] UDP [3074, 3075]
PC – TCP [3074] UDP [3074]
PlayStation 3 – TCP [80, 81, 443, 3074, 5223] UDP [3074, 3075, 3478]
Xbox 360 – TCP [80] UDP [88, 3074]

In case you open the proper ports and they dont work then you should try this method.

Im using a linksys Router. as you can see from all my video tutorials that my prefered Router is a linksys router.
Here is what I did to prevent Call of duty from disconnecting my internet and it worked. (using Linksys Router)

Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.

Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router’s IP address (“192.168.1.1″ is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press

Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name field blank then enter your router’s password (“admin” is the default password), then click OK.
Or User name Type  Administrator and Password type Admin

Step 4:
Go to  security Tab select Firewall then make sure all filters are unchecked and save settings.

Step 5:
Go to Aplication and gaming tab select Qos . then do this

  1. Internet Access Priority = Enabled
  2. Category select online games
  3. Game = Counter Strike
  4. Priority = High
  5. click on Add Button
  6. Save settings

The reason for selecting caounter strike instead of COD Black ops is because I read an article that counter strike also uses Steam so by adding counter strike it will open the proper ports automatically.

 Done!

Note: if  by any chance you get disconnected aggain go back to step 4 and dissable spi firewall protection.

Please leat me know if after this configuration it keep disconnecting you from the game or internet.

How to Block Websites using Linksys Router

With most families now owning multiple computers, home networks are becoming a necessity. Your home router gives multiple computers the ability to share a connection to the internet, share files between computers, and share printers. Another feature that your home router provides is the ability to block specific websites, or particular key words, from individual computers on the home network. Blocking websites using your home router is a good way to control the access that household members have on the internet, especially where young children are concerned.

1. Login to your router by going to the IP address of it in your web browser. By default, it’s usually http://192.168.1.1

2. Click Access Restrictions.

3. In the drop down at the top of the screen, you can select which policy number you want to use.

4. Give the policy a name. I have named it Block Urban Outfitters in this example.

5. Click the Edit List of PCs button. It will bring up a window where you can specify which computers/connections to apply this rule to. You can do it by the network card MAC address or the IP address of the computer you wish to block. I prefer to use IP address,Click Save Settings when you’re done.

Port forward using Linksys Router

Simple Video Tutorial on how to setup port forwarding.Port forwarding is the process that your router or firewall uses to sort the right kind of network data to the right port. Computers and routers use ports as a way to organize network data. Different types of data, such as web sites, file downloads, and online games, are each assigned a port number. By using port forwarding, the router or firewall sends the correct data to the correct place.

A firewall protects your computer by blocking unauthorized information. If a firewall blocked all the incoming and outgoing data, the computer would be unable to access the Internet. When you want some data to go through your firewall, and you want it sent to a specific location, you can set up port forwarding. Port forwarding gives the firewall instructions about which types of data are allowed and how they should be directed.
