Method 1: Automatically Repair from the Windows Recovery or Windows Installation CD or DVD.
If you Download the Recovery Disk you’ll need to burn the ISO image to a CD or DVD before you can use it as a bootable recovery.
Download Windows Vista Recovery Disc
- Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
- Press a key when the message indicating “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …”. appears.
- Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next Button.
- Click Repair your computer.
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.
- At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Repair your computer.
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair.
Method 2: Using the Command prompt
- Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
- Press a key when the message indicating “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …”. appears.
- Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next Button.
- Click Repair your computer.
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.
- At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Repair your computer.
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command prompt
- and type the this command bootrec /fixboot press Enter.
- A message will come up the Operation completed successfully click restart and you are done.
