Windows Server Force Specific Default Lock Screen Image via GPO

Nowadays every organization wants to stay safe in security perspectives and most of the companies are focusing on enhancing the knowledge of their employees regarding their own products/features which result in organization commitments.

As most of the people want to have a customize setting on their profile and changing the lock screen image is one of them. Let’s assume you are working in a company as a network administrator and your client wants to restrict the employees to change the lock screen image.

This can be done by using group policy. I will use windows server 2012 R2 as an example but if you have different windows server then nothing to worry about because you can implement this group policy using any windows server.

Log into the windows server and browse to the folder where you have got the image which you want to set as a default lock screen. Right-click on folder which contains the required image and go to the properties.

Click on sharing and then select Share.

Click on the pop down menu beside “Add” and select find people.

Or else you can select everyone as well, once you have chosen the required option press “Ok” and select the permission to “read” only.

Click on share and then press to complete the process for setting the permission of image.

Now open “Group Policy Management” and right click on OU as in this case it is “All Users” and selects the first option “Create a GPO in this domain, and link it here”.

Name the New GPO as “Default Lock Screen” and press Ok.

Since new group policy is created so right-click on it and click Edit.

In GPM Editor browse to “Personalization” under “Control Panel” of computer configuration and select “Force a specific lock screen image”

Double click on it to configure it accordingly by selecting the “Enable” option and by giving the network path where an image is placed.

Click on “Apply” and then press “Ok” as from now onwards this image will start showing on the lock screens of all computers.
