How to Install Windows WSUS Server in Server 2012 Datacenter
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), previously known as Software Update Services (SUS), is a computer program developed by Microsoft Corporation that enables administrators to manage the distribution of updates and hotfixes released for Microsoft products to computers in a corporate environment.
This helps installation of only required components which helps the company’s internal applications to work smoothly without any issues. If we directly install computer updates, it may conflict with in-house build applications. To install WSUS server on Server 2012, follow the following steps.
Log in to the server, where you want WSUS to setup. Once you are on the server, open server manager and click on Add role and features.
On Select installation type console, select Role-based or feature-based installation. Click on next to continue.
Now select the server from the list, If you have many servers it will list all those servers as well. For this training, I will install this on the same server, So I will select the option, Select the server from the server pool. I have selected it from the list.
Now click on Windows Server Update Services, It will pop-up the box to add features, click on Add Features.
Once, features get installed you will have Windows Server Update Services option checked, Click next.
On next window, do not select any other options if you are not familiar with those, simply click next.
Just read the below notification about WSUS services and click next.
Select the role services that needs to be installed with WSUS, go with default services and click next.
Mention the path where you want WSUS server to download the updates from internet, path can be like C:\WSUS Updates. Now click next.
Now installation wizard will ask to install Internet Information Services, IIS. This service helps WSUS server to communicate with other computers on the network. Click Next.
Keep checked with default IIS services and click next.
At the last window, it will show what operation it is going to perform. Click Install.
Once installation gets finished, click Close.
Now you have WSUS, installed on your server.
