How to Set a Static IP Address in Windows 10

It’s really important to set a static IP address if you want to forward ports on the future, on the time you are going to setup a port forwarding for your router ports for a specific IP address. If you don’t setup a static IP address the port forward will probably work the first time.

But after you restart your computer/laptop it may get a new IP address from the DHCP server. Sure when this happens the ports will not be forwarded to that computer’s IP address, by this tutorial, I am going to explain step by step how you can set a static IP address in Windows 10.

Set a Static IP Address in Windows 10:

1. From the Start Menu, run CMD with administrator priveledges.

2. Run the command “ipconfig /all” to check the current IP address and DNS server, the result will be like the below screenshot.

3. Now you have checked all the IP address and DNS servers that your current network adapter is using.

4.To modify this addresses, Open “Control Panel” from the start menu.

5. Under “Network and Internet” category, click “View status and tasks”.

6. Now click on “Change adapter settings”.

7. Right click your active network adapter whatever it’s Ethernet or WiFi, and choose “Properties”.

8. Under “This connection is using the following items”, double click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” to change the current IP address and the DNS server.

9. Select “Use the following IP address” and you will be able to edit the IP and DNS fields, you should know what the IP address you will put same as the gateway and subnet mask, don’t enter any just IPs or your connection will be down.
