Virtual Box Virtual Machine Setup did not find any Hard Disk Drives Installed in your Computer

Virtual Box Virtual Machine Setup did not find any Hard Disk Drives Installed in your Computer During Windows XP installation.

After booting from the Windows XP setup CD / ISO the blue setup screen appears, you are presented with the error “Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer” similar to the screenshot below.

Solution – Set Your SATA Controller to IDE

  1. Go to Settings –>Storage.
  2. Locate the Serial SATA and remove the .vdi Under Controller: SATA
  3. Select Controller: IDE and click on the HDD + symbol
  4. You will be prompted to VirtualBox – Question here Choose existing disk  to Browse for the location of the .vdi so we can add it under Controller: IDE

Onece you choose the existing .vdi file and placed it under Controller: IDE you should be fine.
